The Black Gold is one of my first photographs without text. In a sense the black rain perhaps crouds the image too much fro text, yet I simply feel it is a ficitional documentary photograph of what could be the future. The black rain is a symbol for our neglect for the planet. It signifies oil (gas station is in image also), ie it look slike the oil that was once pumped in this gas station is now coming back to haunt us. It also refers to the black rain that actually happens after an atomic explosion.

Oil drives most things in politics iand business whetehr we know it or notthe availablility of it over the past 50 years has changed ecery facet of our lives, from how we move around the planet, get to work to the plastic contaqineers we use, to architecture and the urban landscape itself, to how our food is sistributed and farmed.
